Each treatment at Vyas at Vedic Life follows the classical Maharishi Ayurveda protocols, administered by trained therapists in an atmosphere of quiet and care.
Two therapists work in precise unison on both sides of the body simultaneously. The symmetry of touch is not incidental — it is the treatment. Synchronized strokes are understood in Maharishi Ayurveda to calm both hemispheres of the brain, settling the nervous system at a level that sequential massage cannot reach.
Warm herbalized oils are applied in generous quantity and worked slowly into the body. The emphasis is on absorption rather than pressure — the oil carries medicinal properties deep into the dhatus (tissues), lubricating joints, calming Vata, and preparing the body for deeper detoxification.
After the treatment, you will be allowed — encouraged — to rest. This is not a formality. In Maharishi Ayurveda, the rest following Abhyanga is considered an integral part of the healing process. The body needs stillness to absorb what has been given. We protect this time.
Abhyanga is the foundation of nearly every Panchakarma program. It appears daily across all program lengths — from a single day to a full fourteen-day immersion — because its effects accumulate and deepen with repetition.
The oil used is selected by the physician based on your constitution and current condition. Common preparations include Dhanwantaram, Ksheerabala, and Mahamasha oils, each with specific therapeutic affinities.
Sessions are conducted in silence by two therapists. No music. No conversation. The quietness is part of what allows the nervous system to genuinely settle.
Full-body synchronized oil massage performed by two therapists in silence. Calms the nervous system, improves circulation, lubricates joints, and prepares the body for deeper detoxification. The foundation of Panchakarma at any length.
A continuous, thin stream of warm medicated oil flows steadily onto the forehead at the point between the eyebrows. Profoundly calming for the mind and nervous system. Indicated for insomnia, anxiety, mental fatigue, and elevated blood pressure. One of the most distinctive and deeply settling experiences in Ayurveda.
Medicated oil or herbal preparations administered through the nasal passages — the primary pathway to the head in Ayurveda. Clears and nourishes the sinus and cerebral channels, supports mental clarity and alertness, and relieves chronic headaches, congestion, and Kapha accumulation in the head.
Oil massage of the scalp, neck, and shoulders. Relieves tension, stress, and anxiety held in the upper body. Improves circulation to the head and supports deeper sleep. Often paired with Abhyanga as part of the daily treatment sequence.
A vigorous massage using dry or lightly oiled herbal paste rather than oil. Works against the direction of hair growth to stimulate lymphatic flow, reduce Kapha accumulation, heaviness, and ama (undigested matter). Improves metabolism and skin texture. Balancing for Kapha-dominant conditions.
Therapeutic herbal steam treatment to open the channels (srotas), improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and support detoxification. Often follows Abhyanga to allow the oil to penetrate further and prepare the body for deeper cleansing.
Heated boluses of dry herbal powder applied rhythmically to the body. Reduces Kapha, breaks up ama in the tissues, and relieves joint stiffness and muscular pain. Particularly useful for conditions with heaviness, cold, or congestion.
Boluses of warm medicinal leaves — typically containing Eranda, Nirgundi, and other anti-inflammatory herbs — applied to the body with oil. Reduces inflammation, relieves joint pain and muscular stiffness. Excellent for Vata and mixed Vata-Pitta conditions.
Boluses of medicated rice (Shashtika) cooked in milk and herbal decoction, applied warm to the body. Deeply nourishing to muscles and joints. Used for neurological conditions, chronic weakness, wasting, and inflammatory conditions where rejuvenation is the primary aim.
Continuous pouring of warm medicated oil over the entire body while two therapists gently massage it in. One of the most profoundly nourishing and oleating treatments in Panchakarma. Indicated for severe Vata disorders, chronic fatigue, dryness, pain, and conditions requiring deep rejuvenation. Reserved for programs of sufficient length to allow proper preparation.
A gentle oil-based enema using a small quantity of medicated oil. Calms Vata, nourishes and lubricates the colon, and supports overall balance. One of the most universally applicable Basti preparations — safe across all ages and constitutions including the elderly.
A herbal decoction enema for deeper cleansing of accumulated toxins and vitiated doshas from the colon. The classical Panchakarma texts consider Basti the most important of the five cleansing procedures. Prescribed selectively by the physician based on readiness and constitution.
A dam of black gram dough is built on a specific area of the body — lower back (Kati), heart (Hrid), navel (Nabhi), neck (Greeva), or knee (Janu) — and filled with warm medicated oil retained for a period of time. Deeply therapeutic for localized pain, structural support, and organ nourishment.
An oil-soaked cotton pad applied to a specific area — head, spine, heart region, or joint — to deliver medicated oil locally over an extended period. Calms Vata, supports healing in the underlying tissue, and is used alongside other treatments for targeted conditions.
Medicated ghee is retained in a dough ring built around the open eye. The eyes are bathed and nourished in the warm preparation. Followed by a triphala wash. Relieves chronic eye strain, dryness, burning, blurred vision, and Pitta conditions affecting the eyes. Deeply soothing for those who spend long hours with screens or in dry environments.
A continuous stream of medicated buttermilk (takra) poured over the forehead, similar in form to Shirodhara but with a cooling, Pitta-pacifying preparation. Used specifically for conditions of excess heat — chronic skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema, hypertension, migraines, and mental agitation with burning sensations. Profoundly cooling and clarifying.
